Tendril, WaterFurnace Int'l integrate HEM and geothermal HVAC systemsfierceenergy Oct 13, 2011 Back to press
Tendril and WaterFurnace International are partnering to deliver a solution that combines renewable energy with home energy management. WaterFurnace is licensing the Tendril Connect cloud platform to deliver full home energy management (HEM) functionality to its customers beginning in 2012.
"The power of the Tendril Connect platform is that it can connect a vast array of smart devices in the home to a single portal and deliver real-time information and control into the hands of the homeowner virtually anywhere," said Tom Huntington, CEO and president of WaterFurnace International.
"By leveraging its open architecture to integrate our WaterFurnace geothermal systems into the Tendril ecosystem, our already well-informed customers will gain additional insight into their energy use by connecting to additional smart devices through the Tendril platform and have the ability to manage and control energy consumption in their homes."
According to the U.S. Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency, geothermal systems are the most environmentally friendly way to heat and cool. Geothermal systems can be leveraged as a demand side resource to help energy providers better manage the load on the grid by delivering price and control signals, allowing the geothermal system to respond automatically, adapting load in response to peak heating and cooling periods.
